Michael Bracewell struck after the Lunch break to dismiss Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva in quick succession.

Dimuth Karunaratne fell for 89 as Sri Lanka lost 6 for 55 to fold for 164.

Asked to follow on, Sri Lanka lost Oshada Fernando early in the second innings.

Karunaratne scored a second half-century in the Test match before falling to Tim Southee for 51.

After a duck in the first innings, Kusal Mendis scored a fine half-century in the second innings. He finished the day unbeaten on 50* with Sri Lanka still trailing by 303.
